WOW!!! Was I nervous for this race! My wife and I decided today is a great day to race. She helped calm my spirits with prayer before the day was under way. We went to church in the morning took a nap and before we knew it I was on the bike again. I had one goal in mind before the race started, WIN! It's my hometown, and I have never won the milk race, the course we planned to do. Things got messed up at the beginning of the race and I thought we were going to do the course backwards. It all worked out in the end. It was a wreck fest! After the first lap or so I gave up on going up front. I wanted to stay safe for our baby girl Caylin due on June 28th. I had to avoid one crash by running off the road. I thought I was going to hit the ground hard. I decided early in this race not to put my life on the line or work any harder than I needed. With a break group that formed early a chance for a stage win was not looking good. Nine riders were up the road and some of them were Professionals. Only two in the break made it to the end, just twenty seconds ahead. Yes, we will have to wait till next year. |
